- An elaborate adaptation of a timeless classic, this gold Louis Philippe mirror has a ribboned cartouche. The overall form of … more An elaborate adaptation of a timeless classic, this gold Louis Philippe mirror has a ribboned cartouche. The overall form of this French mirror from the 1800s adheres to the Louis Philippe style, with rounded upper corners and a ring of beading surrounding the glass surface. Another trait of Louis Philippe mirrors is seen on the raised quarter-round molding in the middle of the frame, delicately carved with a repeating X motif. The top of the frame is adorned with a sprawling crinkled ribbon that extends in both directions from a scrolled console crest embellished with olive leaves. At over five feet tall, our Louis Philippe mirror with ribboned cartouche was designed to be a floor mirror (there are small block feet under the frame to enhance stability), however it could also be positioned on top of a mantel in a grand room, such as a study, bedroom, or library. less
