The bowl is a reproduction of the authentic engravings done by Paul Revere, that were created by Alan Price, Wedgwood's chief designer. Shreve, Crump & Low has been a jewelers and fine goods establishment in Boston since 1796. The body of the bowl is made from Queen's Ware and decorated with red lithographic transfers drawn from historic engraving of Boston, by Paul Revere. Exterior decoration of the bowl consists of two views of Boston. One is entitled "A view of part of the town of Boston in New England and British ships of war landing their troops, 1768". The second image is entitled, "North Battery, about 1762". Decoration in between the two main scenes are images of a thirty six shilling and two shilling notes. The interior of the bowl has a complex decorated design which forms a border at the rim with four lozenges, with Paul Revere's crest. The interior center scene is Paul Revere's most famous engraving of the Boston Massacre, The Bloody Massacre perpetuated in King Street Boston on March 5, 1790 by a party of the 29 reg". This was one of the key events causing the start of the American Revolution. Revere made this print for pro-independence propaganda. This piece is in excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. A great piece for any Wedgwood, American Revolution, Boston history collector! This piece was also made in black, with red being the rarer collectible. Made in England.
