This PAIR unique pair of mid-century modern Prouve style Standard Chairs were inspired by French designer, Jean Prouve and his iconic 1934 “Standard” Chair design.
This Pair of chairs have powder-coated white legs and brushed-steel solid metal seat and back.
The chair’s sturdy elegance perfectly comforts to the human form and provides ample support for its user with its clean lines. The seat and backrest are made of laminated molded plywood and the legs are powdered-coated tubular steel.
Prouve’s understanding of the need for stronger back legs shows in these chairs design, (as chairs take the most stress on their back legs where they bear the weight of the user's upper body). The engineer, architect and designer Jean Prouvé incorporated this simple insight in his design for the Standard Chair: while the aeronautically-inspired steel tubing suffices for the front legs, since they are subject to less stress, the back legs are made of voluminous hollow sections that transfer the primary weight to the floor, making them solid.
Seat height: 18.5"
Width: 16"

Total height: 32"

Jean Prouve was an architect, engineer, and designer, credited with transferring manufacturing technology from industry to architecture without losing the aesthetic qualities. Prouve played a crucial role in developing construction techniques using lightweight prefabricated parts, many of which came from the aero and automatic industries. Described by Le Corbusier as combining "the soul of an engineer with that of an architect," Prouve played a crucial role in the development of today's modern furniture and design. less
