Kutani ware, made as early as the 17th century, uses a brush for painting with Japanese coloring paint, as you can see the painted part is slightly thickened. Partial gilt rim. 4 larger plates are 10" diameter x 1" high, 1 smaller plate at 7.25" diameter. Made by Kutani in Japan and purchased from the now closed Takahashi Trading Company in San Francisco.
