A large oval Wedgwood platter with heraldic symbol probably once part of a "hunt service" as the symbol upon close inspection represents the partial body of an otter within a garter. Otter hunting by English aristocrats was quite popular in the late 19th century.
There is no pattern number indicating that this is very likely a custom piece made for either presentation or a custom service for a wealthy owner. Totally hand-painted under glaze with no visible sign of wear or blemish. It is in remarkable condition given that the piece is faintly stamped with the first urn mark used by Wedgwood which dates the piece somewhere between 1878 and 1890.
Measure 15 1/8"(34cm) in length by 11 3/8" (29cm) in width less
