Built in Czechia in the 20th century, this piece would have originally been used as a carpenter’s work bench; the impressive iron vises on the side and end of the table would have served to hold planks of wood steady. A drawer set just beneath the thick slab of the tabletop offers space for essential tools. The asymmetrical yet carefully equilibrated silhouette and the box joints which affix the edges of the tabletop speak to the consummate craftsmanship and care with which this piece was made. less
