This elegant antique Regency style ormolu mounted ebonized pedestal, circa 1880, showcases the refined taste and exquisite craftsmanship characteristic of the Regency period. Standing at 49.5 inches in height and measuring 18 inches in width and 12.25 inches in depth, this pedestal is a striking piece that commands attention. The pedestal features a rich ebonized finish, providing a dramatic contrast to the intricate ormolu mounts that adorn its surface.
The design elements include elaborate gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts with floral and foliate motifs, adding a touch of opulence and sophistication. The detailed carvings and ornate decorations reflect the neoclassical influence prevalent during the Regency era, characterized by a focus on symmetry, elegance, and classical themes. The pedestal's base and top are embellished with meticulously crafted ormolu accents, enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.
The Regency style emerged in the early 19th century, during the regency of George IV in the United Kingdom. This period was marked by a fascination with classical antiquity and an emphasis on luxury and refinement in furniture design. The use of ebonized wood and gilt bronze mounts became popular, as they conveyed a sense of grandeur and exclusivity.
This pedestal would be an excellent addition to a formal living room, hallway, or study, serving as a sophisticated display stand for a vase, sculpture, or other decorative objects. Its timeless design and historical significance make it a valuable addition to any collection of fine antiques. The pedestal is in excellent condition, with minor wear consistent with its age, which adds to its authenticity and charm.
