The hardbound coffee table book was published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., and features 231 pages of fascinating campaign furniture designs from 1740 - 1914 including depictions of artwork, advertising and assembly...or disassembly as the case may be. The book also highlights modern designs that were patterned after campaign furniture such as Kaare Klint's 'Safari Chair' and Marcel Breuer's iconic 'Wassily' chair. My favorite campaign oddity is the rather fussy Victorian shower which collapses to the size of a square suitcase...now that is my idea of camping! The British Secretary of War in 1903 is quoted in the book as saying 'The British Army is a social institution prepared for every emergency except that of war.' This book and the fabulous furniture highlighted within are certainly proof that one should be civilized when on dangerous exploits and adventures. Printed in hardcover with linen and gold stamping and protected by matte paper dust jacket.
