These stunning sculptures stand on … more This is a splendid pair of heavy spelter marly horses (after coustou) from the 1930s. These stunning sculptures stand on wooden bases and depict two rearing horses with their groom. Really nice patina to them. The original horses were sculpted in carrara marble by guillaume coustou between 1743 and 1745. The sculptures showed two rearing horses with their groom, and they were commissioned by louis xv of france for the trough at the entrance to the grounds of his château de marly. This pair would make a wonderful, quirky gift for any equestrian or animal lover, or you could simply treat yourself—you deserve it! in a home residence, these magnificent sculptures would make a striking statement on a mantelpiece or in an elegant foyer.
