The starry finish is … more This stunning Murano mosaic vase features a perfect blend of opaque colors and sophisticated mosaic technique. The starry finish is achieved by rolling canes of various colors on a small mass of heated glass. with glass scissors you create flat discs with a star design. These discs are then heated on a flat surface, traditionally a stone (the so-called stone working). The process continues by rolling the heated pieces with a glass disc that coincides with the perimeter of the rectangular side, known internationally as the Roll-up technique. Closing the remaining sides into a cylinder, adjusting the dimensions and shaping the final shape with the punty technique and opening by hand are the most challenging steps. The result is a one-of-a-kind mosaic vase, with a complex pattern of stars in an endless array of matching colors. This technique, known as Stellato vase, was perfected and studied by Pollio Perelda at the Toso Brothers. Other glass artists, such as Archimede Seguso and later Lino Tagliapietra, also contributed to this method.
