Successive appearances of the Aurora Borealis in the North-North-West, at Bossekop (Finmark) on January 12, 1839 Tinted lithograph with hand color. Sheet 515 x 315mm. Repairs to surface abrasions right corners of image with mss. fill. Five views of the Northern Lights drawn at Bosskop in Finnmark county, in northern Norway, as they evolved over the course of two hours. They were drawn by Louis Victor Bévalet for Gaimard's 'Travels of the Scientific Commission of the North, in Scandinavia, Lapland, Spitsbergen and the Feröe: during the years 1838, 1839 and 1840 on the corvette La Recherche'.
