This ochre glazed jar comes from the Chinese Yuan dynasty (1279-1368) Martaban kilns. The jar showcases the typical Martaban shape, with a tapered unglazed foot and a large belly opening thanks to a trumpet neck. The neck is surrounded by ceramic buckles, probably to attach the jar which was used as a water vessel. The belly displays a bright ochre glaze enhancing a dragon pattern, an auspicious traditional Chinese motif. This jar is a great example of the ceramic art revival during the Yuan dynasty, and especially of the Martaban kilns vessel.
