The jar features a dark grey color with lighter vertical incised bands on its belly. The cocoon shape refers to the silk worm cocoon, according to the fact that silk was an important product during the Han dynasty. First used as a wine or water container, this antique jar was probably found in a grave, following the antique Chinese tradition of leaving food in the tomb for the deceased. This Chinese Western Han dynasty terracotta cocoon jar with incised bands would be an amazing decorative item anywhere and its serene combination of antique and modern-like patterns would allow it to blend with any theme.
