This Chinese statuette of Quan Yin was made with painted marble during the 15th or 16th Century. Quan Yin, the Goddess of Compassion, is depicted in a seated position, wearing a large Chinese monastic dress and a headscarf. Her clothes feature the red color that is characteristic of Quan Yin representations. The drapery showcases the mastery of the Chinese marble carving. The Goddess holds one of her symbols in her left hand, a jade vase. The face is depicted with a soft and serene smile painted in red and black with finesse, conveying the Goddess' compassion. This rare 15th or 16th century painted marble Quan Yin statuette from China would be a wonderful decorative item in any home, perhaps placed in a living room, a bedroom, or in a den where her calm attitude would encourage work.
