The cabinet adopts an uncommon shape with a tall bottom supporting a much shorter top. The cabinet is covered with a light red lacquer enhancing its Elmwood grain. The four doors two above and two below are attached by traditional Chinese circular brass hinges. The doors open thanks to a brass lock displaying pear shaped handles, an auspicious Chinese motif which symbolizes good fortune and prosperity. The bottom doors open to reveal three shelves and two drawers which open with the same handles. This elegant Chinese 19th century compound cabinet with brass hardware would be an exotic yet functional storage unit in most rooms, with ample storage below for books, papers, clothes or china.
