In the Edwardian Edward & Jones style.
Brief history of Edwards & Jones (Edward Henry Edwards and Alexander Jones): 161 Regent Street, London the business operating from 1860 to 1895.
A feature that stands out are the brass fixtures & traditional classic historic Edwardian shaped design of this model.
With a posting slot near the top and a pull out small drawer with brass pull handle at the bottom.
You will love the pillar post box shaped circular cylinder architechtural design with the fine carved curved 6 sided top finish. Below a brass access letter post flap, further below on the front is a plaque which states the time of when the post leaves am/pm along with rates of postage for letters or parcels. With a lower pull out drawer which has a brass swan neck handle
Handmade from out of mahogany.
So collectible and would make an exceptional gift.
With working lock and comes with original brass key & 1 other later key.
A nice size as it stands 43 cm tall and 25 cm width of the top.

Interior post boxes were a must for the English aristocracy during the late Victorian era to the end of the Edwardian era, they were displayed on the reception counters of grand British hotels also entrance halls in large stately homes. Twice a day the footman would be expected to gather the outgoing mail and send it to the local post office. They where inspired by architecture having varying roof styles, this model is a particularly notable example as it has the pillar box shape.
Valuable collectible and highly sought after. Another similar one isused by Queen Victoria made £14,500 at Hansons auction earlier this year.
