This is the original iconic platform bed created by German designer Peter Maly for Ligne Roset, purchased in San Francisco in 1998. It is a European queen size, and the frame is made of a beautiful light pearwood in an asymmetrical design with the wider side on the right. It comes with two pivoting trays (lightly ridged aluminum set into a wood frame) and three movable back cushions with zip-off covers. One tray is situated on the right-hand side (the wider side), while the other is situated on the footboard. Also included is an extra footboard that does not contain a pre-drilled hole for the tray, so you have the option of assembling the bed without the second tray if you prefer that look. The back cushions can be placed anywhere around the bed, but there are metal channels at the head and foot of the bed that keep the cushions firmly in place. Contrasting nicely with the light pearwood frame are the black legs which support the bed. This bed is in very good condition, with a few minor indent marks (see picture) on the left side of the bed near the head cushion and a few very minor signs of wear elsewhere. It comes disassembled, with the original assembly instructions included.
The mattress (not included) is approximately 60” wide x 78” long (a longer mattress will not leave enough room for the head cushions). This is close to an American queen size (60” x 80”), but is actually a European “king” size mattress which can be purchased on the internet. A mattress depth of no more than 5-6 inches is recommended to enhance the low profile. (The bed originally came with a 5-inch mattress, although the picture shows a 6-inch one.) No foundation is needed; the bed comes with the original wood-and-rubber slats, which are very strong and comfortable. less
