I love this Marc Chagall piece because it represents the crossroads of art and culture, music and dance in Hasidic life, and what he saw during one of his Russian periods in the early 1900s during Russian dominance. The Violinist was painted by Chagall in Paris in 1912.

Chagall's violinist is said to have been the inspiration for "Fiddler on the Roof," which was based on the "Tevye Stories." Remember Reb Tevye from the movie or musical?
