Sit Down armchair designed by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina in 1975.
Steel structure, molded plywood, cold-injected polyurethane, quilted polyester wadding … more Sit Down armchair designed by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina in 1975.
Steel structure, molded plywood, cold-injected polyurethane, quilted polyester wadding fabric.
Good condition, the armchair has been sanitized and cleaned by a specialized company, small stains.
The “Sit down” armchair by Gaetano Pesce is made of a plywood mold covered with a quilted lining in polyester wadding (and in which the vertical load-bearing steel structure reinforced by straps rests) and filled directly with expanded polyurethane foam .
The injected polyurethane fills the mold freely and spontaneously, forming an outline wherever it meets the gaps in the back unit or seat, thus producing a different shape every time.
Once hardened, the shape gives a single chair in quilt shape.
The quilted coverings of the armchair thus act as a form for the polyurethane foam that has been injected into it.
This unorthodox process has allowed a significant saving in production costs and ensures that no two armchairs are the same.
It is with this method that Cassina with Gaetano Pesce tested the idea of "individual unity in mass production".
The details of the shape of the Sit Down chairs (1975) change, in fact, from one example to another, while maintaining the same appearance.
Polyurethane foam is used in a simpler way to make several pieces in a series, similar but not identical.
Rare item, sought after by designers and collectors.
