Red, Creamy White, Blue & Gold Welcome 8th Illinois U.S. Volunteer Infantry, Citizens' Reception Committee Chicago, March, 1899 Clasped Ribbon. Featuring a rectangular woven fabric form, oval and decorated Gold, Brass toned clasp to top, 2 hand sewn flags. Gold printing throughout, accentuated with 1.5"H Gold tassels to bottom. Ribbon 8"H x 2.5"W. This regiment saw action in the Spanish American War of 1898, where it first made history as the only regiment in the nation to be commanded by all African American officers.
