Superb hand made quality,this gem is carved like no other, sharp & crisp carvings everywhere, finished with spectacular (now aged to perfection) parcel gilt / gold. This museum quality piece is done in Neoclassical Empire style, all pegged (see photo), made in France in early 19th century, with later added modern great quality upholstery.All edges of the chair are wood. Matching carving pattern on top and arms, and bottom, the backrest is to marvel at, you can look at this chair from any angle, all you will see is perfection, perfection, perfection. Condition is great for 200 years of age, structure is solid and sturdy, showing expected flaking on gold, minor age / use wear, while the fabric is very good (please see photos). Size is large 37.5" tall to the top of the carving in the center, a hair under 24" at the widest point, 24" deep, and the height of the seat is 18" to the top of the cushion. It is no exaggeration, this is one of the finest French Bergeres we sold in decades, I just wish you can see it in person. There will be only one lucky owner, this is something we just don't get to see every day, much less sit in it. Gorgeous looking chair will be a great addition to any setting, traditional or mid-century modern! less
