18th. century Austrian/German marquetry inlaid box on stand, c.1780. Probably used as a safe box or merchants box.

Fine quality and condition marquetry inlaid box with images of hunting scenes and geometric inlay. The top is inlaid with book matched mahogany and cross banded in fruitwood. The front has two hunting scene panels and the back has two geometric panels of a castle interior. The sides have geometric inlays and cross banding and two large brass handles. The interior has a working lock and key, large decorative hinges and a candle box on the right. The custom made stand is a later addition to which the box is attached to. Good antique condition, recently waxed and polished. less
