A wonderful French art deco ceiling fixture in nickeled bronze. The high quality richly detailed fixture by Paul Gilles holds a globe by the famous Muller glass company signed Muller fres Luneville. This model is referred to as boule aux paons (Peacock globe) in the old catalogs and exists in a smaller version as well. Gilles used the 25 cm diameter one for this semi-flush mount. See my other auctions for an identical ceiling lamp with gilt mount. Paul Joseph Gilles (born in 1876) was a producer of art deco lighting in Paris during the interbellum. With his typical style of voluptuous bronze mountings holding molded-pressed glasses of the best factories (Muller Degué Schneider) his lamps are sought after nowadays. Gilles signed shades exist as well. These are models produced exclusively for him by one of the mentioned glass manufactories.
The pendant is represented on page 16 of the 1929 P. Gilles catalog. It has a height of 40 cm (15,75") and the shade a diameter of 25 cm (9,84"). It is in very good condition. The old nickel plating turned grey and shows some wear consisting with age. I re-nickeled and patinated the fixture. And the lamp comes newly wired. It holds an American standard socket. For European countries I will place a E27 one.
