Offered is a set of 7 clear Finnish textured glass "Niva" High Ball tumblers. Made by Iittala Finland, designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1972, pattern number 2031.
"Niva" means rushing stream in Finnish, and this is clearly an inspiration for this series. They are known for their thinly ribbed vertical texture divided by curved bumps in the center, meant to represent rocks in a stream. The design is also thoughtful engineering, helping the user to hold the glass while slippery with condensation, and minimizing any appearance of fingerprints. This collection is iconic in 20th century Finnish design, and is featured in the book "Iittala - 125 Years of Finnish Glass", page 250, and on the Designlasi website.
