A stunning antique circa 1885-1895 English silver plated serving tray, with a hand engraved Armorial of an elephant with the Latin motto Manu Forti (With a strong hand). Manu Forti is the motto of the Scottish clan Mackay, though normally their crest features an arm with the handholding a dagger. This version with an elephant needs me to believe it was probably given as a presentation to Donald Mackay, 11th Lord Reay, who was British Governor of Bombay and Under Secretary of State for India from 1885 to 1895.
In excellent condition, no dents or damage, just small surface scratches and signs of use. There are no makers marks, though it is marked "England" on the back. Measures approximately 18 inches long across the arms, 16 inches long not including the arms, by 12.5 inches wide. less
