This STUNNING vintage Japanese Brushed Lacquer Wood and Copper Senmaki Vase will be a showstopper in your interior decor (especially contemporary). It is such a beautiful vase that will complement any floral arrangement you create or give it the spotlight it deserves by displaying it with flowers on your desk, coffee table, book shelf or bedside table. Part of the kabin tradition used for ikebana flower arrangements; this piece is senmaki, a type of woodcraft from the Hida-Takayama area in Gifu Prefecture that features tiny long shavings of wood wound around a base as a veneer to create the unique swirl look. It is brushed with clear lacquer to better highlight the design. It is short and rounded with a copper metal insert to protect the wood from water damage. It comes with a detached, matching flat round stand. The original box is also included. Beautifully proportioned and even lovelier in person, this is a unique piece of pottery that was purchased at the famous Osu Antique Market in Nagoya, Japan.
- Dimensions: approximately 6.75″W x 6.75″L x 6″H. (Mouth of vase is 6cm (2.5″) wide; base is 18 cm (7″) round.)
- Condition: Great vintage condition with no visible chips or cracks; please see pics for details.
- Set includes 2 pieces (vase and stand)
What is Kabin?
Kabin is a series of vases inspired by the classical, simple forms found in Japanese craftsmanship. The large table vases offer the same stability and complexity as traditional Japanese tea bowls, and their oval-shaped bodies rest on top of a small foot or pedestal, adding refinement to the classic form. less
