*Jens Quistgaard was a Danish designer known for his work with Danish company Dansk Designs. Though trained as a sculptor, Quistgaard thrived in the world of industrial design. He served as chief designer for Dansk Designs for over 30 years, starting in 1954. His designs were known for their simplicity and functionality, often incorporating organic shapes and natural materials like teak. Quistgaard's work ranged from tableware and cookware to furniture and decorative objects, all embodying a timeless Scandinavian aesthetic.
*Despite its deceiving name, Dansk is actually an American company, not Danish. Founded in 1954 by Martha and Ted Nierenberg, Dansk began as a distributor for Scandinavian design products. The Nierenbergs were particularly impressed by the work of Danish designer Jens Quistgaard, and collaborated with him to bring his modernist tableware and cookware to the American market. Dansk became known for its sleek, functional designs that incorporated natural materials like wood and cast iron. The company gained a loyal following for their housewares and home accessories,though today Dansk is owned by the American company Food52. less
