This is a great piece. I recently acquire a bunch of work out of a corporate collection that had shut a couple of their offices. You can see some of the other photographs and paintings I am selling that come out of that collection. This is one of 2 Sam Murfitt photographs I am offering in my store. For those not familiar with the photographer I have included his biography below. I have found exhibitions last year and the previous few years in the Penobscot Marine Museum, Maine Maritime Museum, and others. This is a wonderful large original photograph of the lobsterman pulling in the nets. It is a large photograph measuring about 12 x 19 inches. Photograph is in excellent as printed condition. Signed in pencil on the matte> Beautiful archival framing and black frame are complimentary and ready to hang. I have not taken the photograph out of the frame as it is a great presentation. Frame measures 23 1/4 x 29 1/4 inches. Make sure you check my store for the other Murfitt photograph I am also selling.
For those not familiar with the photographer, a biography from a website that references his most recent museum exhibition reads: " Having grown up between several boatyards on the north shore of Massachusetts, I started working on and taking photos of boats as I entered my teens. I made enough money selling my photos to buy a good set of cameras, and in my early 20s moved to New York City where I lived for 16 years teaching photography and running a photography studio. When I returned to New England—first to Gloucester, Massachusetts, then to Kittery, Maine, Beals Island, and, finally, Rockland—I realized that the waterfront had changed dramatically. Fiberglass construction seemed to have supplanted traditional wooden boatbuilding. For the past few decades, I have made it my mission to document the harbors, boatbuilders, fishing families, and life of the working waterfront in northern New England, including shooting photos at almost every one of the Maine Lobster Boat Races for the past 19 years."
