This is a great piece. I recently acquired an excellent collection of original mid century James Russell Sherman paintings of New York. I am offering a couple of them this week. A great chance to add some incredible New York paintings to any collection. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is a wonderful view of the buildings that line Central park in New York City. Pretty sure the roof on the right of the painting is the Plaza Hotel so this would be looking south. Watercolor on paper measuring 20 x 23 1/2 inches. Signed lower right. Signed, titled, and dated verso Painting is in excellent condition. Really just an outstanding view of New York City. Painting is hinged into backing and is unframed. Ready to be framed. Make sure you check my store for the other Sherman New York works I am offering.
For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from askart reads: "Born in Maxwell, Iowa, Sherman grew up in Colorado where is father was a wheat grower and rancher. Sherman's interest in drawing took him to Kansas City in the 1920's where he studied at the Art Institute. Following graduation from the Kansas City Art Institute he traveled to New York City where he attended the Art Students League and met Thomas Hart Benton. Sherman subsequently studied both drawing and painting with Benton. During his art career Sherman exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Library of Congress, the Denver Art Museum and numerous Galleries in New York City." less
