This is just a great original piece. Back a few years ago, I acquired an excellent collection of Daniell photographs from the estate of the photographer. Most of them went into my personal collection of photography but I have decided to lighten a little bit of my collection and am offering this and some other important photographs in the coming weeks. For those not familiar with Daniell I have included his biography below. This is a wonderful image of the 2 brothers that are the subject of some of Daniell's most iconic work, Nino and Bruno. A wonderful original gelatin silver photograph on paper measuring 12 3/4 x 9 1/2 inches. Excellent contrast in this original period photograph. Title in pencil, photographers studio stamp, and "Photo Researchers, Inc." stamp verso. Unframed. If you collect Daniell, dont hesitate to reach out and I can show you some of the other examples I am willing to sell.
For those not familiar with the photographer, his biography from a gallery that sells his work reads: "George Daniell (1911-2002) was born and raised in Yonkers, New York, and began taking photographs as a teenager there. He studied at Yale University as well as New York's American People's School and Art Students League. After graduating, he became a freelance photographer, working in New York City and Europe. As his career progressed, he became an outstanding artist of international renown, and has since been recognized as major figure in twentieth century American photography. Although he best known for his dramatic black-and-white photographs of famous actors, artists, and writers, he also produced a captivating body of travel photography, sometimes uncompromisingly realistic, and at other times charming and idyllic. He was also an accomplished watercolorist, and painted subjects ranging from the gay culture of New York's Fire Island, where he spent much of his youth, to scenes of coastal life in Maine, as well as still lifes. His work has appeared in Time, Life, and other magazines, and is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Gallery in Washington. It has been displayed during exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, Bowdoin College Museum, Colby College Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, and has been the focus of many solo exhibitions as well.
