This is a great piece. I was excited to purchase this painting because of the importance of the artist. Jane Braun-Reinitz is a wonderful important Social activist who just passed this year. For those not familiar with the artist I have included her biography below. Her works are quite scarce and dont come to market very often. This piece actually comes from the estate of important Palm Beach Florida Architect Robert Eigelberger. A wonderful acrylic on paper of what I believe is a painting of a mural that is in the Villa Giulia in Italy. Painting is on paper measuring 12 1/4 x 9 3/4 inches. Outstanding as painted condition. Really a stunning vibrant example of the artist's muralistic style. Signed and dated in pencil on the back. Painting is archival hinged at the top into archival backing and matte. Original foam core backing is also included and has the artist's original title of the work. Matte measures 20 x 17 inches. Do your own research on this great painting and important artist.
For those not familiar with the artist her biography from a gallery that sells the artist's work reads: "Janet Braun-Reinitz is a New York muralist, painter, and activist. She was the Rochester CORE chair and also worked at national CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) office from 1961 to 1962. As a participant in the Saint Louis, Missouri to New Orleans, Louisiana Freedom Ride, she was arrested and jailed in Little Rock, Arkansas. Much of her work reflects on those experiences and on her involvement with the feminist movement - stories waiting to be re-told, commentaries on recent events and those fading from history that resonates in many registers- from Emmett till to Travon Martin. less
