This is just a great original piece. After purchasing a pair of paintings directly from the granddaughter of William Bradford Green earlier in the year, I was able to meet up with her and acquire a few more of the artist's finest works. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. The artist is known for his Northeast scenes and as well as scenes he painted while in California in the 1930s. This is a wonderful view off the coast of Gloucester Massachusetts. 2 boats going along the horizon. A wonderful watercolor on paper measuring 15 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches. Signed lower left. Painting is in excellent condition. Completely unfaded. The title of the painting is in pencil verso. Left and right margin show some tape residue from what was probably an original matte (some of the others I acquired still have the matte attached. Do your research on the artist. If you collect the artist or California paintings, check my store for the other I am offering.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from askart reads: "William Bradford Green was born in Binghampton, NY on Aug. 1, 1871. Green studied with Wm Chase and Arthur Dow. While a resident of Hartford, CT, he made painting trips to California in the 1930s. He died on April 6, 1945 in Hartford, Connecticut. Member: Salmagundi Club; Copley Society.” less
