Description: Late 1800's double inkstand by Maison Millet, Paris. Decorated in the style of Louis XV with gilt bronze and black … more Late 1800's double inkstand by Maison Millet, Paris. Decorated in the style of Louis XV with gilt bronze and black lacquer.
The set is marked on the underside, MB, for Blaise Millet, the founder of Maison Millet in 1857.
They were active in the late 19th century, creating designs in the art nouveau and classical styles of the time. Many of their designs were exclusively for Francois Linke, which this inkstand most likely was made for.
There is typical tarnish to the bronze, some spot repairs and crackling in the lacquer but otherwise it is in good condition, retaining it's original glass inserts.
A fine example of a rare inkstand of the period. less
