Originally designed for the Paulistano Athletic Club in São Paulo, Brazil, by Paulo Mendes da Rocha in 1957, the Paulistano … Read more Originally designed for the Paulistano Athletic Club in São Paulo, Brazil, by Paulo Mendes da Rocha in 1957, the Paulistano armchair’s frame is a continuous 17-foot-long piece of solid steel that’s welded in a single spot and hand-machine polished. This deceptively simple structure is then wrapped in almost an entire hide of leather that develops a patina over time. The natural leather is vegetable-tanned, full-grain semi-aniline double-sided. Exceptionally comfortable, the Paulistano lounge chair flexes slightly, and the sling can be adjusted up or down the frame for upright or relaxed sitting. Made in France. This cult chair has been included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art of New York (MoMA).
