In 1900, Hector Guimard set a direction in exploring sinuous organic forms to create buildings and furnishings of delicacy and fluidity. His vision inspired Antonio Gaudi of Barcelona, the Jugedstil of Germany, the Secession Movement in Vienna and the Arts and Crafts Movements in Scotland and Britain. Much of this new aesthetic was a reaction to th machination and automation of the industrial revolution where man's purpose and place were suddenly questioned. The return to nature at a time of great angst at the turn of the 20th century was a reprieve for artisans and aesthetes in continental Europe and later in the US. This chair draws its principal form from a Louis XVI Fauteuil but brings in curvature to the arm and back while incorporating vine and floral carving as an integral form of ornament. This specific chair is finished in a blonde tone over a carved beechwood frame. The seat and back are upholstered in a natural suede affixed with hand hammered nailheads. The chair is rare and extraordinary and yet its simple refinement and unique archetype form finds perfect for contemporary interior design. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hector_Guimard less
