This stunning piece is an Italian Neoclassical commode, dating from the mid 19th century. It features beautifully inlaid wood marquetry with flowing ribbons, garland, bird and foliate motifs, and an original Nero Portoro marble top. The commode's canted corners have been accentuated with a carved acanthus leaf detail.
The commode includes four spacious drawers on top, which have been crafted with hand-dovetailed joinery. Below, a fifth secret drawer is concealed in the bottom piece of trim. The commode rests on shaped feet, and features all of its original drawer pulls and escutcheon plates.
This chest of drawers would be a statement-making piece in an entryway, and would be equally graceful in a bedroom, living area or hallway, where guests can admire its beautiful craftsmanship.
