Sometimes described as a "rose bowl" (due to its size), this wonderful Burmese Ware is in the distinctive pink to creamy yellow shaded glass with a delicate scalloped and folded upper rim.

Typical of this style of glassware, small amounts of uranium in the glass cause it to glow bright green in UV light. The underneath has a ground pontil and a mark used from the late 1890s to the early teens.

Thomas Webb & Sons of Stourbridge, England, produced some of the world's finest Victorian art glass including cameo, cut and colored wares. Burmese glass first originated in the United States. The formula was developed by Frederick Shirley of Mount Washington Glass. He developed it in 1881, patented it in 1885 and soon after licensed it to Thomas Webb and Sons in England. less
