This pair of chairs were much loved and much used by my husband as a child. The chairs were acquired … more This pair of chairs were much loved and much used by my husband as a child. The chairs were acquired by his parents, Brigadier General and Mrs. John B. Ackerman in London following the end of World War II. The Ackermans were assigned to the US Embassy-London, where Brigadier General Ackerman served as United States Air Attache from 1946 - 1950. Upon return to the USA in 1950 (along with my then 3-year old husband), the Windsor chairs were used in various family homes in McLean, VA (Ranleigh Estate), Georgetown, Washington DC and Chicago, IL.
The chairs are late 18th Century , George III hand made ash and yew wood Windsor style. Each chair has a bowed back rail over pierced splat and spindles, continuous arms on turned supports, above saddle seat raised on turned legs joined by stretchers. Each has a very pleasing style and warm buffed finish.
Past insurance appraisals (C.G. Sloan & Company, Skinner, Inc. Boston, Butterfields Chicago) valued the pair at $2200. less
