"Margaret Neill's drawings and paintings register physical energy as mental process, and reveal the connection between mind and matter. Utilizing sweeping strokes that echo the sine waves that are a primary scientific construct of movement and change, her graceful marks involve the viewer in the excitement of motion much as a swimmer feels the water." -Julian Jackson
Energetic and contemplative these works are intuitive, process oriented and carry references to language, music, mathematics, and everyday experience. The work poses a method of mapping physical and emotional space. By paying attention to our environmental landscape which is always in flux, the artwork embodies a vibrational resonance of experience. These multilayered artworks are created in a variety of media using drawing as its foundation. In constantly changing circumstances, light and form begin to characterize what is inherently inexplicable and connect the viewer to a universal rhythm that is continuous and alive.
Neill's work has been reviewed in Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, and The New York Sun. She has work in public, private, and museum collections including, Yale University Art Gallery, Colby College Museum of Art, Pfizer, Wellington Management, The New York Public Library, Deloitte University, TX, The Boston Medical Center, New York Public Library. The New School University, Hiram College OH, Loews Corp. Philadelphia,Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, Ernst & Young, NYC, among others. less
