Rare goldscheider art ceramic figurine of the 1920s: depiction of the actress and dancer lilian harvey wearing a dark wig and striding in a long, at the back low-cut dress decorated with an elaborate floral pattern, holding her skirt up behind her with her right hand, her head slightly lowered and her left hand on her hip. The figure is supported by a flower vase and rests on a black, faceted oval base, artist's signature 'dakon' on the back of the vase. This model was probably based on a photograph by alexander binder, published in the magazine 'uhu' 4.1927/28, h.10, july, p. 54, illustration accompanying the article: becker, kurt: lilian, the girl with 100 faces. Lilian harvey (1906 - 1968), real name lilian pape, was a british-german actress, singer and dancer. From 1923 she attended the ballet school of the german state opera and received first paid appearances as a dancer in hungary and austria. She made a total of 12 films with willy fritsch, and in 1930 came the decisive breakthrough with the romantic comedy film liebeswalzer. 1931 the film 'the congress dances' appeared, in which she appeared in a scene 'christels song', better known as 'das gibt's nur einmal' that today still exists as an evergreen. During the nazi era in germany lilian harvey's career stopped because of her opposition to the regime and she emigrated first to southern france and then to the united states. After the war she returned to europe and took turns living in germany and france, where she died in 1968. Designed by stephan dakon (1904 - 1992), one of the most important designers who worked for the goldscheider manufactory. Design of the model circa 1926/1927 made circa 1927 manufactory: goldscheider vienna / austria material & technique: hand-crafted ceramics, white earthenware, hand-painted, glossy finish dimensions: height: 47,5 cm / 18.70 in width: 32,0 cm / 12.59 in depth: 20,0 cm / 7.87 in marks: model number 5625 / 45 / 14 goldscheider wien (vienna) manufactory stamp made in austria / hand-decorated painter's and former's signs existing artist's signature 'dakon' on the back of the vase bibliography: dechant / goldscheider, goldscheider: firmengeschichte und werkverzeichnis / history of the company and catalogue of works, stuttgart (germany), 2007, page 412, number 5625 condition: very good this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
