A shroud box ( sweeping vessel or chip box) is a storage box made of a thin shavings that bends around a round or oval template. This technique has been used in Northern and Central Europe, as well as parts of Western and Eastern Europe.

History: Shroud boxes have been around since the Stone Age and have been used as storage containers for butter, when travelling and as packed lunch containers. They have also been used for liquid goods. Among the nomadic Sámi, the shroud was the only real piece of furniture in a Sámi hut.
Each adult owned a sweeping vessel, and sometimes smaller ones were made for children to carry during moves. Sweeping technology has an important place in the Sámi handicraft tradition, as the vessels are easy to carry and move.
Nowadays, wrapping boxes are used for storing crispbread and as cake and bread plates.

Preparation: To bend the shavings, steaming over a fire or boiling in water is used. Once the shavings have dried, they are removed from the template.
