Crafted from brass and forged iron, this mid 19th Century fireplace trivet features an openwork top plate with an intricate double cranes and leaves design. In the olden days, this floor trivet was set next to the hearth, serving as a kettle and pot stand after cooking over the fire.
This trivet remains in good condition but with visible signs of wear: there are wood and brass cracks to the handle, especially on the bottom side. The brass has tarnished, and the iron has rusted. The top plate is slightly detached from the iron base, and the backside has accumulated corrosion stains. Despite its age, this old-time charm remains solid and sturdy, able to serve its purpose today with character and history.
