The material is made from a vulcanized fiber. This is a laminated plastic that is composed only from cellulose. Lighter than aluminum, tougher than leather. The interior shows a stain on the bottom, likely from a scared critter on the way to the vet. Considering the age of this item, I’d say it’s in very good condition. Still has the leather roll up screened portion for checking on your beloved pet while in transit. Circa 1940s. The exterior of the box shows minimal signs of wear. less
