We purchased these alongside a similar pair that were being used as an assembled set of 4. The gothic cutouts on the crests are the same, but there are slight differences between the two pairs so we decided to split them up. If you’re interested in keeping the assembled set together, we posted the other chairs a few days ago and they should be only a few items behind these. These chairs are slightly better than the others, and we especially love the sophisticated urn shaped splats and the bold grain Bird’s Eye Maple showcased on them. The rolled tops of the crests & the front seat rails feature bold cuts of Tiger Maple with the curly grain orientated vertically. The convex stretchers also have vertical grain, and the front saber legs have the curly grain orientated horizontally, deliberately opposing the other elements. With respect to Israel Sack’s good, better, best grading system, we have no problem placing these in the best tier of their form. The cane seats are usable but do have a few broken strands and some minor stretching. We’d recommend leaving the seats as they are and as long as you use a cushion, which is always recommended with any natural fiber seat, the seats can still provide many more years of use. The frames are in wonderful condition with our only additional notes being minimal surface wear & the tip of a spur missing on the splat on the left chair. The chairs measure 18” wide at the crest (17” at seat box) x 18 1/2” deep x 34 1/2” tall with a 17 1/2” seat height. See less
