The Norwegian designer and architect developed this chair in 1957 as part of a student project at the National College of Art & Design Oslo. The seat shell consists exclusively of vertically and horizontally arranged plywood struts. The design was completely revolutionary in terms of form and construction.
The Scandia Chair has received numerous international awards, including the gold medal at the International Crafts Fair in Munich in 1967. Hans Brattrud was honored with the Royal Norwegian Gold Medal of Merit in 2008 for his life's work.
