The Eastlake furniture style as envisioned by it's namesake, Charles Lock Eastlake, started over his dislike of the excessive Rococo revival and renaissance styles popular during the Victorian Era. Eastlake called for the manufacture of simple, sturdy furniture.

Although Eastlake furniture is technically considered Victorian (1870-1890) it breaks away from the curves and high-relief carving of other styles from the same period. Eastlake furniture is more geometric and incorporates more modest curves.
