During the second half of the 19th century various personal products, notably tooth powders were sold in china "pots". Initially the china lids of these pots bore the name and advertising of the maker of the product. Eventually the makers chose to portray lithographed designs and scenes as a way to increase sales. Today the lids are highly collectable. This one shows an old couple playing a card game. The title of the scene is "The Pair" referring both to the card game and the couple playing cards. This lid is in very good condition with bright colors and is in a custom walnut frame. See less
