An exceptional midcentury modern art glass decanter bottle, crafted by the renowned Wayne Husted for Blenko Glass Company in 1962, exemplifies the period's iconic aesthetic. Model 6225L, known for its rarity within the square shaped series, boasts a striking architectural, rectangular silhouette. The decanter is presented in a vibrant turquoise blue, a color typical of Blenko’s distinctive palette. With dimensions of approximately 3.5" square and standing 18" tall, this piece once featured a square-shaped stopper, although the original stopper has been lost, collectors and design enthusiasts look past this as the bottle itself is extremely rare. Its textured glass is adorned with horizontal Strata lines, adding a unique tactile element to its appearance. Despite its age, the decanter remains in excellent condition, showing minimal wear and no chips, cracks, or repairs.
Originally founded in 1893 and relocated to Milton, WV in 1921, Blenko Glass continues to be celebrated for its exceptional color and craftsmanship. This piece not only serves as a testament to Blenko’s enduring legacy but also reflects Husted’s innovative approach to glass design, which was heavily influenced by his Bauhaus training and his tenure as Blenko’s Director of Design from 1952-1963.
