The stunning blue color of this vase by Viking Glass was called "Bluenique". This is a lovely, 6-"petal" piece for your vintage glass collection or on display in any home. Gorgeous empty and amazing filled with your favorite blooms.
Called “slumped glass” from its melting process, the handkerchief vase calls to mind the casual folds of a dropped cloth (or hankie). This style was invented in the late 1930s in Murano, Italy. By the mid-1960s, handkerchief vases were so popular they were being copied by glass factories around the world. Handkerchief glass from the 1950s and 1960s is highly valued.
Viking glass is hand-blown, but some pieces are only partially hand-blown. Swung Viking glass is blown in a mold before it is removed and swung. The Viking Glass Company made a variety of colored glass to create pieces of glass art. Some of the pieces are vases, while others are glass sculptures of animals or plants. The Viking Glass Company was a 1944 rebrand of the New Martinsville Glass Company. The new name reflected the popularity of Scandinavian glass that was entering the market. less
