A heavy figure of a male 'Noh' actor - a Japanese stage performer, with a fan in hand. The detailing of this 'okimono' is beautiful and his theatrical robe features 'crane mons' and exotic flowers. The palette of colours is what attracts the eye - the bronzes, old gold and coppery verdigris. He comes on his own wood stand. The statue looks classically beautiful and will be a focal point in any room as well as a conversation piece.
In very good condition. Signed on verso Austin 1981.
Weight 13 lbs. H17.25". Austin sculptures are made of Durastone and hand cast and finished. Durastone® is thier special formulation of crushed stone.

Noh is often based on tales from traditional literature with a supernatural being transformed into human form as a hero narrating a story. Noh integrates masks, costumes and various props in a dance-based performance, requiring highly trained actors and musicians.
